Ahhhh, Butlins! A name synonymous with Red Coats, holiday camps and quintessentially British seaside entertainment - and what could be a more quintessential British seaside entertainment than a good game of Bingo? A popular entertainment at its real-world resorts, it’s therefore little surprise that Butlins have now decided to open an online Bingo hall to entertain the virtual vacationer during those drizzly, grey days that pass for a typical British summer’s day.
From its foundation by the legendary Billy Butlin in 1936, Butlins has grown over seventy years to become one of the most recognised leisure companies in the UK, built on Billy Butlin’s original pledge to his customers that “our true intent is all for your delight”. With Billy’s words etched on our memory, we logged on to see if Butlins Bingo would, indeed, fulfil its intent to delight us.

Much like a first date, when reviewing online Bingo sites we firmly believe that first impressions count, and we’re happy to report that, on meeting Butlins Bingo, we didn’t feel the need to keep our coat on, quickly make our excuses and leave! Butlins welcomes its players with a crisp, colourful site that gets the mix of functionality and decorative eye-candy just right; it looks fun and if you don’t find this site easy to wend your way around we have a rather fetching hat in the office that we’re happy to eat.
“Trust The Entertainment Experts” is the modern Butlins company motto, and any new player can have no doubt that this is an online Bingo hall that is not only attractive, but also safe to play with real money, and at which they can expect a decent standard of customer service. Butlins have also chosen to partner up with St. Minver to deliver its online Bingo, further guaranteeing a service that’s built on a rock-solid, Bingo-dedicated network that has quickly acquired an enviable reputation.

For those who’ve never experienced online Bingo played through St. Minver’s network, you’ll discover a thriving community of Bingo players populating its round-the-clock 90 ball Bingo sessions and chat rooms. The software is blissfully simple to use and, by being built on Macromedia’s Flash programme, works flawlessly on a wider spectrum of current home computers. Ticket prices are keen (starting as low as 10p), and the volume of players who congregate here means that not only are the chat rooms usually abuzz with Bingo banter, but the progressive jackpots that regularly build here can be very, very tempting too. A fine selection of slots and other instant win games in Butlins’ Games Arcade complements the entertainment in the main Bingo Hall, and makes for a pretty complete simulation of a land-based club.
On the promotions side, Butlins /St. Minver offer all new players a free Welcome Bonus of £1 when they sign up. Now, £1 might seem pretty small potatoes, but it is a very useful freebie that lets all new players try out the Bingo on offer (the potential to play a maximum of ten games if you want) without making any deposit. If and when you do decide to deposit some of your own money to play with, you’ll also enjoy a Match Bonus that currently doubles your money, up to a maximum bonus payment of £125.

Butlins Bingo’s partnership with St. Minver, creates many attractive reasons to play here, however it also creates a certain quandary for us: The Bingo you’ll enjoy here is exactly the same as that you’ll be playing if you chose to play at one of Butlins’ competitors, for example. Chit Chat, Virgin or Littlewoods to name three. All these sites are portals to the same St. Minver Bingo games and chat rooms, so you are joining a pool of all the players who come through these respective sites. This makes for a busy Bingo hall, but does mean the experience is not distinctive to that company who you signed up with. You’ll even find that the 24/7 customer support - which we must add is very efficient - is actually common to all St. Minver’s partner sites too. Butlins does add its own flavour to the tone and design of its website (we certainly haven’t been able to enjoy the dubious thrill of “playing with Barry’s balls’ at any other Bingo site! We wonder what Billy Butlin would have made of this beanpole dancer rummaging in his Y-fronts for our ‘delight’?) but that’s about the limit of customisation.
So ultimately would we recommend you to play Butlins Bingo? Well, yes. The actual online Bingo and all its attendant facilities may be shared with other sites, but that doesn’t detract from the fact that it is terrific – we don’t blame Bultins for partnering with St. Minver when they offer such an outstanding product. If you already have fond memories of Butlins holidays, that’s reason enough to choose them as your gateway to this Bingo network, and we also think Butlins Bingo deserves consideration for the space it devotes on its site (including Barry and his agitated underpants) to support the excellent Everyman cancer charity.
