Chit Chat Bingo is a relatively new name to the online bingo world, but it may well seem familiar to dedicated players who’ve been online for a little while, and for good reason; Chit Chat is the Bingo hall that has risen from the ashes of the old Gala online site. After a period as part of the well-regarded St. Minver network of online bingo halls, Gala decided to ‘go it alone’ with their own software so rather abruptly shut up shop early in 2006 in preparation for a complete relaunch. Mercifully for the players who’d grown to love the atmosphere and Bingo at the old Gala site, St. Minver quickly found a new partner in Chit Chat and resurrected this popular destination. To be clear, Gala and Chit Chat are entirely separate, unrelated companies, but if you previously enjoyed the online Bingo experience at Gala’s old site, you’ll feel very much at home with Chit Chat.
Right, with all that corporate history out of the way, let’s get down to the real business of the Chit Chat experience. With a motto of “My Kind of People” you might be forgiven for wondering if Michael Barrymore’s going to pop-up as Chit Chat’s Bingo caller (“Awwight!!”) but we can assure you he isn’t – what it does allude to is the relaxed, sociable Bingo on offer here. The whole look and feel of the site is very welcoming, with excellent navigation to make getting cosy with Chit Chat very easy, and registration to play was beautifully short and sweet.

What you’ll enjoy after registration is access to a very busy Bingo hall, operating around the clock, with correspondingly lively chat going on. There may be only one hall to choose from here, but this does not feel limiting as the play is energetic and there are multiple chatrooms available to help you tailor the ambience to your mood. The caller is a bit ‘over - enthusiastic’ for our tastes, but we’re sure he’s a lovely man, is kind to animals and children plus you do have the option to turn him off. Chit Chat have also laid on some excellent diversions in the shape of casino-style games to play between Bingo games if you’re not in a chatty mood, or are one of those players who can multi-task like a very multi-tasky thing! If chat’s particularly where you’re at online, then you will also appreciate the regular chat games that the tireless CMs add to the mix of Bingo banter in the well-populated chatrooms.
The games themselves are extremely well presented with non-download software that’s a treat to use and both intuitive and nicely customisable to allow even players on wheezing dial-up connections to get responsive play. We were also especially pleased to see that Chit Chat’s Bingo worked flawlessly on an Apple Mac – something that we did have some problems with when St. Minver was previously partnered with Gala – so it gets a very big thumbs up from us for running a hall easily accessible to a wider community of online players. Chit Chat’s jackpots also benefit from tapping into the wider St. Minver pool of bingo fans, as the cumulative effect of this community of players buying tickets is nice, healthy progressive cash prizes to play for.

Common to all the online Bingo halls that use the St. Minver network, a free £1 bonus is credited to all newly registered players without requiring any initial deposit and this is a great way to test drive the Chit Chat experience for free. You might think £1 seems a bit stingy, but with a minimum card price of 10p, you can spin it out over a few games and, in the absence of any freeplay games, we think its a reasonable alternative to allow risk-free exploration of what this online bingo hall has to offer. Any complaints? Well, promotions are currently cash-only and a bit thin on the ground at Chit Chat Bingo, but they do offer a reasonable Match Bonus on first deposits, and we hope that this is an area of Chit Chat’s offering that will develop in the future. On the issue of Chit Chat Bingo’s customer support, offered via an all-hours freephone or e-mail service, we have no complaints: we found it to be both quick and efficient.

Whilst there’s a lot of shared technology with other online bingo sites partnered with St. Minver that does affect the distinctiveness of Chit Chat Bingo, we do not think it actually spoils what really matters - the overall high quality of the experience and the fun you can have here. Although the Chit Chat brand may be new to UK players, we think it’s going to make a lot of friends with its affable atmosphere. My kind of people? Our kind of Bingo hall! |
