First impressions of Getminted's foray into online bingo are very positive. You are greeted by a well laid out, bright and uncluttered front page, and there are prominent buttons to fast-track members to the bingo, or new visitors to a registration page if they want to join up and get stuck in straightaway. The restrained use of animation and graphics also makes it both easy to assimilate what's on offer, and means the page loads quickly - it's nice to see a site that is aware that not all online bingo fans will be accessing the net on rip-snorting broadband connections. Dial-up connection may increasingly be a digital dinosaur but it isn't extinct just yet!
The simplicity of the this online bingo site's welcome page is carried through to the navigation, so getting acquainted with how to 'Get Started' with Getminted was a cinch, although a more detailed primer of how to play online bingo might have been useful for real novices. Whilst bingo (and online bingo) isn't the most difficult game to understand, we do like to see sites that pull out all the stops to guide newcomers through their particular game interface. To balance this, and supporting the compliment we paid above, it was nice to see clear advice on how long games will take to load for dial-up users (two minutes if you’re asking). These times, whilst not instantaneous, are a good balance between delivering games that are detailed but don't require users to download a big wodge of custom gaming software first.

Signing up to play with Getminted requires a few more details than some of its rivals, but it's hardly arduous and processing was incredibly fast, getting us to the online action swiftly. Also worth noting is Getminted's currency option during sign-up which, whilst not absolutely unique in the online bingo world, is nice to see. Players have the option to choose from US Dollars, British Pounds or Euros as their account default.
With the painless signup out of the way it's time to whip out our virtual dauber and get to the nitty gritty - what's it actually like to play Getminted's online bingo? Well, whilst the simplicity of the graphics makes the loading of the games interface pretty snappy, it does present a rather bland experience compared to some rival halls. Getminted doesn't offer any less functionality than our favourite online bingo emporiums, giving users access to lively chat rooms, neat instant win minigames in support of the main attraction of the scheduled bingo games and progressive jackpots, however we do find the implementation lacks some razzle dazzle. Also, in sharp contrast to the clear navigation of the main site, navigating the games interface isn't always as clear or intuitive as it could be - there was much head-scratching before we found the tiny, obscure icon used to switch between the main bingo games, and we found hitting the 'yes' option on the exit button had absolutely no effect. Not good. We were also disappointed to find that you couldn't see the main online bingo games in progress without buying a card (or several!) for that session. This might seem an odd criticism (let's face it, if you consider online bingo a spectator sport you probably should consider getting a new hobby!) however, in the absence of detailed instructions on the site for how to use the online bingo interface, we think watching a session in action can be a handy alternative for learning the foibles and nuances of the gaming software before committing some cash. To mitigate this a little, you can play Getminted's online bingo for a measly 10 pence per card, but a free play or demonstration mode wouldn’t go amiss in our opinion.

Returning to the main Getminted Bingo site and the issue of customer support, we found the e-mail only service to be efficient and helpful. Telephone support is a useful alternative option that many rival online bingo halls offer (and which we do like to see) however its absence here does not unduly compromise the quality of Getminted's service. What we did find weird was that, when exploring Getminted's other gaming sites via the navigation tabs at the top of the Welcome page, when clicking on the "Bingo" tab to return to this page we were taken to Foxy Bingo instead! OK, so Foxy Bingo is also part of the Getminted empire and also links back to Getminted Bingo, but this navigational detour was disconcerting, and a bit of a cheeky diversion if you ask us.
Getminted Bingo is not the most visually spectacular or user friendly online bingo experience we've sampled, but it does have solid games, competent support, good jackpots, tidy bonuses and enjoyable chat. And that does make Getminted Bingo worthy of consideration, especially if you've already got some experience of online bingo halls but fancy a change from your regular haunt.
